5609 S. Michigan Avenue is a 25-unit apartment building located in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood. It is only 6 miles south of downtown Chicago. Established in 1869 as Chicago’s South Park by the Illinois State Legislature, the park and the surrounding area were meant to connect downtown and the West Park system. Renamed Washington Park in 1880 in honor of President George Washington, it is also home of the DuSable Museum of African American History. The park was also the proposed site of the Olympic Stadium in Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
